Burlyce Logan Gets Bachelor's Degree 55 Years After Being Discriminated Against & Forced Out of UNT Despite End of Segregation

Burlyce Logan gets bachelor's degree 55 years after she was forced to drop out because of constant harassment from white students & professors because she was black, despite end of segregation.

Buzz: Burlyce Logan,73, was finally able to finish her bachelor's degree, 55 years after she became one of the first black students to enroll at the University of North Texas. She enrolled in 1956 (two years after desegregation) but had to drop out in 1958 due to constant abuse by white students and professors for no other reason but the color of her skin. Well, what the devil meant for bad, God meant for good, no matter how long after the fact. She left the university at a time when black students were not allowed to live on campus. To make matters worse, not one black student in her group was allowed to pass their English exam because the teachers did not allow them, according to the U.K. Daily Mail. Only two out of the 11 students who enrolled in the first class of black freshmen at UNT who made it through the program because of the harassment they faced on a daily basis. Congratulations to Burlyse Logan on attaining her bachelor's degree in applied arts and sciences!
