Huntsville Minor Hockey League Sparks Controversy Over Hosting Dachshund Race at Ice Rink

It is a sad commentary that the Huntsville Havoc minor league hockey team decides to host a dachshund race to raise money for NASCAR driver Ryan Newman's animal welfare foundation,by allowing the dogs to run at an ice rink. Doesn't that rise to the level of animal cruelty since dachshunds are prone to back issues? How is this different someone who abuses animals? According to WAKA Montgomery, some area residents are organizing a boycott. Why couldn't the dogs run in an area outside the ice rink?
