Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) sued by visually impaired former staffer Mona Floyd for humiliating her about her eyesight.
Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX) has been sued by former staffer Mona Floyd, who is visually impaired, because she made "humiliating" comments about her eyesight. You will remember Ms. Jackson-Lee as the lawmaker who wanted hurricanes to have more "
black sounding names." To be fair, Ms. Jackson-Lee has been a staunch advocate for the rights of disabled people, so I have to wonder why would she have disparaged this woman, given her history? According to the
Daily Mail, Ms. Floyd alleges Rep. Jackson-Lee said, 'I don't care anything about your disability.' Well, we'll see how this turns out. Ms. Floyd, who is a lawyer, alleges the treatment was discriminatory and forced her to resign her position. The lawsuit was filed in June in federal court in Washington D.C. and is seeking unspecified pay and compensatory and punitive damages. I'll be bluntly honest, while I may not agree with Anita Hill's motivations behind following Clarence Thomas from job to job, despite her accusations of sexual harassment, it would be a cold day in hell before someone forces me out of a job without a fight from me. Mona Floyd could have taken this higher. I am sure the buck didn't really stop with Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee.
