Laurens County Deputy Sheriff Roger Rice Shot & Killed Searching for Murder Suspect Bennie Ray Brown, Jr.

SC deputy sheriff Roger Rice shot & killed as he and other officers searched for murder suspect, Bennie Ray Brown, Jr., who was taken into police custody.

Another law enforcement officer has been gunned down in the line of duty. According to Officer Down Memorial Page, SC Deputy Sheriff Roger Rice was fatally shot as he and other deputies searched for a murder suspect, Bennie Ray Brown, Jr., at approximately 11:55 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers from the Fountain Inn Police Department had requested assistance from the sheriff's office to locate the man, who had just murdered his girlfriend. Deputies and officers located the man near his home on Barrel Stave Road in Clinton. As they attempted to take him into custody he opened fire, fatally wounding Deputy Rice. Other officers on the scene returned fire and wounded the subject before taking him into custody. Source
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Deputy Rice. Rice, who had served with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office for 18 months, is survived by his wife and two children.
