There's something to be said about a grown man engaging in a verbal altercation with a child -- he's a bully. St. Clair County Board of Review member
Kevin Malone, who is white, was charged on Saturday with felony hate crimes one week after he engaged in a fight with
Karry Carter Jr., a 14 year old black male. The fight involved racial slurs. According to the BND.com, Malone was charged with two counts of hate crime for his actions against the teen.
Malone, who is white, has been charged with two counts of hate crime for committing disorderly conduct by uttering a racial slur at the black juvenile in such an unreasonable manner as to provoke a breach of the peace and for committing battery against the youth by pulling his hair while uttering a racial slur at him, according to a news release from State's Attorney Brendan Kelly.
Malone, 51, of Freeburg, surrendered Saturday afternoon and was released after posting bail, Kelly said. The bond had been set at $30,000 by Associate Judge Stephen Rice. No court hearing has been scheduled in the case. Source
Malone said the kid started the altercation first and took the first punch. Since when is the kid the leader and the adult the follower? Seems to me Mr. Malone went off the deep end. No matter what the kid said to him, he could have just walked away. Simple.
