Could Rev. Al Sharpton be Coming to 6 P.M. Slot on MSNBC?

Could civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton be coming to MSNBC in the 6 p.m. slot? TVNewser is reporting that there might be some truth to that rumor.  For the past two weeks Sharpton has been hosting the slot, "MSNBC Live," for Cenk Uygur, who has been on vacation and slated to return on Monday. TVNewser said the network was just trying Uygur out in the spot. Sharpton did a decent job, coming in second to Fox News in the age 25-54 demographics on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It would be nice to see an African American hosting his or her own show on one of these networks. Some people will say hell no to Sharpton. How bad can he be on MSNBC following a script?

The ghost of Tawana Brawley will rear its ugly head in the debate over whether Sharpton should be given a show on national television. I can't recall hearing an apology from him about the debacle, but he has redeemed himself in so many ways. I can't say I am a fan of Rev. Al Sharpton. I rarely listen to him and his jive. I was also a little disturbed at the financial mismanagement at his National Action Committee, as well as his personal challenges with the Internal Revenue Service. I won't be a hater and say hell no to Al on MSNBC, but I would like to hear him call a spade a spade when Obama does something wrong. Personally, I am leery of anyone who swears off criticizing President Barack Obama.

Do I think there are other blacks who deserve a spot on national television? Yes I do. There are many, who are journalists and movers and shakers in their communities. I recall a ridiculous experiment HLN tried by giving comedian D.L. Hughley his own show. Well that nightmare ended really fast when they realized he perpetuated negative stereotypes about blacks and insulted whites. While Sharpton isn't of the same ilk as Hughley, he has a thin-skin for all things anti-Obama . That can't make for a fair and balanced show.
