CPS issues apology after Adam Powell Grade School assistant principal Angela Peagler denies young brothers Noah & Niko Nicholson free breakfast because they wore the wrong shoes to school.
The Chicago Public Schools system has egg all over its face this morning after apologizing to a mother, Kahlia Edwards and her two sons -- Noah (1st grader) & Niko Nicholson (kindergartener) -- after they were denied breakfast at Adam Powell Grade School because they wore the wrong kind of shoes to school. According to CBS Chicago affiliate, the brothers were wearing black athletic shoes and said the assistant principal Angela Peagler wouldn't allow them eat because their shoes didn’t fit the school uniform, which calls for a regular black dress shoe. The boys reportedly went to class hungry and didn't not eat until lunch time.Er, one question, was this Ms. Peagler's personal kitchen for her to have the hubris to deny the children breakfast because of their shoes? Mind you, these are young children. Children have to learn to follow rules, but to deny them breakfast because of their shoes is ridiculous. Why not warn them that they must wear the proper shoes to school or a letter will be sent home to their parent(s)?
