LSU graduate student Benjamin Haas to burn US flag as part of peaceful protest at noon Wednesday, in response to recent flag burnings.
SHAME: Louisiana State University graduate student, Benjamin Hass, reportedly plans to burn an American flag on campus at noon Wednesday, as part of a so-called peaceful protest, according to the student newspaper Daily Reveille. This is a slap in the face of every soldier, male or female, who have given their lives for their country and continue to fight on our behalf. Here's an
excerpt from the newspaper:
Cody Wells, Student Government president, said Haas is exercising his First Amendment right to burn the flag. The burning comes nearly a week after Isaac Eslava was taken into custody after cutting down and burning the American flag flying over the War Memorial and stealing the University flag.
Wells said Haas went through University procedure to host tomorrow's protest, and he also went through the procedure to organize a "peaceful assembly in response to recent flag burnings."
"We're going to respect his First Amendment right to burn our American flag," Wells said. He added he and others will then "exercise our own First Amendment rights" by holding their own ceremony.
Is this what we have come to in this country, an eye for an eye? Would you rather have a terrorist, whether domestic or foreign, running around knowing he would strike our country on some level again? Absolutely despicable to hide behind the First Amendment and kick the men and women on the front-lines in their faces.
