Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan says "police authorities are the same today as they were during slavery."
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said, in a recent speech entitled "Justifiable Homicide -- Black Youths in Peril Part I," "police authorities are the same today as they were during slavery." There are rare instances in which Louis Farrakhan makes some sense, but the majority of the time he is pushing a vile brand of rhetoric that can be considered racist by many. He said in the speech that blacks are literally being chased down and shot to death by the police. I beg to differ. There have been isolated cases in recent years of police brutality. It is not the norm, so to imply that the cops are actively seeking black youths to apprehend and shoot is just preposterous. He ought to take a look at what is going on in his backyard -- Chicago. There are daily incidents of black-on-black crime. So, what would he have the police do? Turn a blind eye? He's deliberately ignoring the fact that the majority of crime committed in his city, are by blacks and Latinos.I want Black youth to hear this message, because police authorities are the same today as they were during slavery. In fact, this is how policing began. Police were formed to catch runaway slaves, bring them back to their masters and make examples of them to throw fear into other slaves. It’s the same today. Police authorities are trained to kill, as well as to protect. But where Black people are concerned, police legitimize their mob attacks under the name of “back up.” Police back up is often no different than the lynch mobs 100 years ago. The killing of our people, shooting them with many bullets when one would have done the job. And then, that deliberative body which is to discuss the brutal murder of our people by looking into the facts, comes away calling it justifiable homicide.Where is the personal responsibility of the perpetrators of these crimes against law-abiding, hardworking and decent people in cities across this country? I just can't understand how Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson and the other so-called civil rights leaders can scream police brutality or racism, without addressing the high crime rates in many predominantly black areas across this country?
In Chicago recently, a young, Black Brother was shot down by the police and the parents are aggrieved. The police said the young Brother was running and he had something in his hands, but the witnesses will tell you, “He didn’t have anything in his hands; he was just shot down.” And the body of persons in a deliberative process to determine the facts that is supposed to address this, just says, “Well, we’re looking into it.” But when they look into it, the verdict comes back as “Another dead Negro—justifiable homicide.” Source: Final Call
